The challenges of gardening in a small space can seem overwhelming at first but an amazing garden is definitely within your reach. Every space, regardless of its size, has potential. Often it seems like the smaller the space, the more hidden the potential. But if you look hard enough, it’s there.
The fundamentals of sound garden design really come to the forefront when working in a small space. The importance of concepts like unity, balance, structure, scale, texture and form are magnified in a small garden. Did I forget to mention detail? Details are the name of the game in small space gardens. Nothing can be overlooked or taken for granted when designing a garden for a small space.
Let’s face it, many gardening books, and blog posts for that matter, are written for the gardener who has a fairly large garden. It can be hard to find inspiration and advice when you are gardening in a small space like a balcony, rooftop terrace or secluded courtyard. Until now.
